ENVIRONMENTAL HYDROLOGY

With the increasing focus on sustainable development, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) have become a mandatory requirement for many developments. Our understanding of interlinked hydrology, geology and ecology receptors allows us to provide comprehensive water environment EIA chapters and supporting technical assessments including but not limited to: Private Water Supply (PWS) assessments, Groundwater Dependent Terrestrial Ecosystem (GWDTE) assessments, Peat Management Plans (PMP), Peat Landslide and Hazard Risk Assessments (PLHRA), geomorphology assessments, CAR licencing and Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMP).

NATURAL CAPITAL

Natural capital assessments are becoming an increasingly useful tool for businesses seeking to integrate their relationship with nature through design, investment, strategy and operations decision making. The outputs of a natural capital assessment can act as a valuable foundation for future management and funding. Our strong understanding of the interdependencies between water environment ecosystems and land uses allows us to provide highly specialised input to Ecosystem Service asset registries and Natural Capital assessments, thus informing investment decision making and enabling natural capital credit generation.

CONSTRUCTION ENVIRONMENTAL SUPPORT

Environmental support during construction is more critical than ever before. We understand the challenges faced by projects regarding environmental compliance, and our Construction Environmental Support service provides the necessary assistance. We work closely with all parties on a construction project to establish successful environmental practices before, during, and after construction, to ensure success in meeting environmental obligations. We further provide specialist services to support construction including water quality monitoring, temporary drainage design, pollution prevention advice, peat management advice, habitat protection measures, CAR licencing, waste regulations and wetland creation.

FLOOD RISK MANAGEMENT

Flooding is a significant concern in the UK, and accurate assessments of flood risk are increasingly crucial for property and infrastructure developers. Changes in planning policy have placed an increasing onus on developers to avoid flood prone areas. Our flood risk assessment services include for the full suite of hydrological and hydraulic analysis typically required to support a Flood Risk Assessment (FRA), including interpretation of desk based information, peak river flow estimation, 2D surface water modelling, 1D/2D river modelling, coastal flood level derivation and mitigation optioneering and design. Our FRAs use the most advanced technologies, data and modelling techniques, ensuring the safety and resilience of the developments assessed.

SUSTAINABLE DRAINAGE

Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) that provide the four pillars of SuDS design, namely water quality, water quantity, biodiversity and amenity, are becoming increasingly sought as developers seek more attractive drainage strategies that meet the tightening planning policy landscape. Our SuDS design service includes for optioneering, conceptual design, drainage network modelling using industry standard software packages, outline design, engagement with local authorities and provision of Drainage Assessment (DA) reports to support planning applications. Our hydrological and flood risk expertise enables us to provide highly sustainable drainage solutions that effectively manage stormwater runoff whilst also maximising biodiversity and amenity value.

PEATLAND RESTORATION

With growing concerns about climate change and the need to preserve natural carbon sinks, the demand for peatland restoration services is on the rise. Peatlands play a crucial role in carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation. Our extensive experience and track record in implementing both the Peatland Code and Peatland ACTION frameworks enables us to support both the design and implementation of restoration projects, including the provision of peatland condition and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) surveys, Peatland Restoration Feasibility Studies, management and monitoring plans, support through validation, on-site supervision and condition monitoring post implementation.

WATER QUALITY

The quality of our rivers and seas is currently at the forefront of public debate. At EcoHydrology, we can assist in understanding and protecting water quality through the conducting of comprehensive water quality sampling and analysis. We apply best practice methodologies and partner with UKAS-accredited laboratories to ensure precise detection and compliance with Environmental Quality Standards. We can also assist with delivering monitoring plans, long-term monitoring programs, nutrient impact assessments, Highways England Water Risk Assessment Tool (HEWRAT), Simple Index Approach (SIA) and private water supply risk assessments.
